RiverRock is a series of performative explorations centred on a single rock within Crom Allt Burn, Tyndrum, in the West Highlands of Scotland. Developed as part of Louise Ann Wilson's wider enquiry into Becoming Rock, the work investigates how close physical engagement might deepen relationships between body, paper and stone.
Working repeatedly with the same rock, Louise explored its form through touch before drawing it, sometimes with her eyes closed and sometimes while looking only at the rock rather than at the paper. Paper itself became an active material within the enquiry, pressed and moulded around the rock in an attempt to understand its contours, surfaces and weight through direct physical contact.
Rather than producing representations of the rock, the drawings and paper studies became traces of prolonged encounters with it, exploring drawing as a tactile and embodied process through which the materiality of stone might be more closely understood.
